Torrid picking the winner for the win! July 1, 2008

Filed under: Joanna, clothes, curvy-girl — johubris @ 4:16 pm

As a fat chick who likes to wear nice clothes suitable for her age that make her feel sexy instead of dressing like a frumpy grandma, I am all about ordering from Torrid, especially when they’re having a 50% off clearance sale as they are right now (I got a pair of velour track pants (I know, I am so OC housewife, but they look coooomfy), a smocked pink hoodie, a pair of flats with dangling skulls, a short-sleeved jacket, a pair of awesome lime green panties and the cutest denim halterneck dress ever for just $80 US + $43 for shipping), but another reason why I’m giving them mad love today is because I saw that they’re selling Team Barack and Team McCain necklaces. Why do I like it so much? Because anti-women’s-rights old McCain comes in second-place silver, while Barack gets the gold. Huzzah!

How does there sizing compare to somewhere like Farmers etc????

johubris Says:

Their 24 is a Farmers 26, usually, and their 3 is a Farmers 3XL, if it’s Torrid-brand, anyway. If it’s another label, it might be a bit different. Their size charts have all the measurements in inches, so if you’re ordering for the first time I advise you to measure yourself up first. I was lucky because I went to a store in San Fran before I bought online so I got to see how it fited to me. One thing I like about them is htat with lots of clothes in NZ in plus size, the shoulders of things are much too big for me, but Torrid shoulders are a bit smaller I think.

Also, if you’re coming to our party, you’re welcome to try on some of the trillions of items of Torrid I have to see how they fit if you like!

I definitely might take you up on that.. I find myself in a perpetual bind between the mediocre plus sizes at Farmers, and forking out most of my pay at Zebrano..

There are some okay things at Farmers sometimes, but you need to hunt for them. Same with The Warehouse (I know!), and I also recommend the sales rack at The Carpenter’s Daughter in Petone, but yeah, Torrid is totally my #1. I need to do a post on what’s good where.

I have the most amazing dress that I got from the Warehouse, that no one ever believes is from there.. Also is an Australian site http://www.mysize.com.au you really need to search through but some of their dresses are awesome and look way better on then in the pics..

This was my Warehouse dress success. I don’t know if you and I are the same size or near each other, but just based on the fact that we’re having this conversation lets me know you’re more like me than Amy is, so I hope you’ve got old clothes to bring along to our swap at our party!

Thats the same PRETTY dress that I own :)

See, I tried on that dress, and it looked awful!!!

Joanna Says:

Megan, I think the secret of that dress is I bought it in a couple of sizes smaller than I would normally wear, totally by accident (hanger and dress label didn’t match). Although sometimes I don’t like it, and sometimes I do. And it’s pretty poor quality and is a bit puckery already.
