I have also tried translucent face powder since i didn’t have baby powder, which works OK. I tried talcum powder too, but it left my hair looking white!

I am a giant greaseball. I’d end up looking like Amadeus. Sigh.

Actually, Bumble & Bumble makes something they call “Hair Powder” (creative, no?). It even comes in various colors to match one’s hair. I’ve also heard that it is basically cornstarch.

Lara, I’ve heard of a product like that too - called ‘dry shampoo’ or something. I’ve asked hairdressers about it and have yet to find a product like it. Thanks for the tip!!

Amy, this might be very weird of me to offer, but I have 1/2 a bottle of the BUmble & Bumble version that I never use anymore. I’m happy to send it to you if you want to try it out - just shoot me an email!

Aveda also does a version of this type of product, it comes out in powder form and when rubbed into your roots it gives them more oomph and takes away the oily look. Its worth a look and lasts for ages.

Lara that’s not weird at all! That’s exactly the sort of behaviour that we want to encourage with Pretty Pretty Pretty. Methinks there will be reward treats in a package back from Amy…

Hi Lara, thanks heaps for the offer! Where abouts are you posting from though? it might cost you a heap for postage to New Zealand. Send me an email to amy(at)prettyprettypretty(dot)com. We can do a swap, like Jo suggested…

Hey Amy, great site! FYI, I’ve been doing the powder thing for a while, and if all you have is talcum powder, I find that you have to brush it out REALLY thoroughly to avoid the 18th century powdered wig look - but it still does work (gotta watch your part though, it can go a ghostly white that is quite disconcerting if you have dark hair).

The good news is that there is a dry shampoo spray that you can buy in NZ - it’s called ‘Batiste’. Radius pharmacy stock it (check out their website), but it must be popular becuase they often don’t have it when I go in. I bought my last can from the Lambton Quay store - gotta get me some more, that stuff is like gold on cold winter mornings when you really don’t want to wash your long hair!

Christina, thank you too for the awesome tip. I’m really excited to try this stuff. I really want it for my fringe. it gets oily way before the rest of my hair.
