Review: Estee Lauder Perfectionist

October 22nd, 2008 by Amy Leave a reply »

For the past three weeks, I have been testing Estee Lauder’s Perfectionist serum, applying to only one side of my face and not the other.
They say:

This powerful wrinkle-correcting serum dramatically reduces the appearance of lines, wrinkles and age spots.

My own observation of any difference is inconclusive. So I asked a small sample of peers (one male and one female) if they could tell which side I had applied the serum. The male and female both said they could tell the difference and correctly picked which side I had applied the serum to. I’m quite amazed. Though I’m sure it’s not the best scientific approach, it has piqued my interest in the product (it was merely a free sample I was trialling).

Any difference this product has made is very subtle. It’s not a miracle cream. But if you’re seriously sick of crows’ feet it’s at least worth asking EL for a free sample to try yourself.

hmm, so if the first person had a 50% chance of getting it right and the second person did too, then that makes it how likely they both would have got it right by chance …? But hey, i’m all for something that may have even a small possibility of working on my incipient turkey neck, since what I’ve been using so far hasn’t been very effective!

Yeah, not the best method for deciding it works. But both people were asked if they could notice a difference first, and if so to which side. Both said they could notice a difference and then chose the correct side. So it’s a tiny bit more convincing than a simple 50% chance. But still many other unknowns – like what if the side I applied it to happened to be less wrinkly from the outset? I myself saw little difference, but I’m not sure if that’s because of my expectations.
