While perusing Kirk’s today I saw this sign. On the 11th and 12th June, Linden Leaves, who we love, are having a lady come in and hand and feet treatments (I think it’s $20 for hands and $35 for feet). You can make an appointment instore at Kirk’s (Wellington).

Ugly cushion contest

May 28th, 2009

ugly-cushionSmall Acorns, the cute and classy home, kids and beauty store, has a fun competition at the mo. Send in pics of your ugmo cushion, and you could win a beautiful new one.

And remember, Small Acorns still has Bloom products on sale at crazy good prices.

MAC rose romance swatches

May 27th, 2009

I swatched MAC’s A Rose Romance collection today. Nothing very special about it, and maybe it’s the wrong season for these colours. Pictured below to the left are the lipglasses (virgin kiss, steal my heart, magnetique) and the lipsticks (way to love, a rose romance, odyessy). To the right are the eyeshadows and glitter eyeliners. Nothing very outstanding, except perhaps the glitter liners which hold fast and are very vibrant.

MAC says:

From cheeks that blush, just a pinch, to soft rosebud shades and refreshingly fragrant fixes, it’s a summer rose romance. Rosy pinks, faithful fuchsias and forget-me-not blues…a limited-edition collection of colours, to pick, peruse and ponder.

Mecca Cosmetica beauty election

May 27th, 2009

mecca

A judging panel, instore experts, and you the cosmetic-going public all got to vote in Mecca Cosmetica’s own beauty product awards. Results on the best products on sale at Mecca Cosmetica are available here.

Mecca’s product lines are on the pricey side but there are some real gems among them. I can recommend the Kevyn Aucoin Brow Pencil, winner of the ‘Best for Brow’ award; and the Stila Smudge  Pots (though in winter they tend to harden up too much), winner of the ‘Ultimate Eyeliner’ award.

From the sheer number of award categories (I estimate around 100 beauty product categories were in the beauty election), it’s hard to discern which products are actually worth a second look. But the good thing about Mecca is being able to bowl up to the counters and have a play around and see for yourself. (And then you can always see if you can get it cheaper at strawberrynet.com – cheeky aye.)

I want….

May 26th, 2009

I know Martha already tweeted this, but just look at it….

smashgracielou.co.nz has this fantastic Smashbox pallette:

A double tiered palette which opens like a paintbox to reveal array of utterly wearable shades for eyes, cheeks, lips and brows.

As well a bunch of other great brands – MAC, Stila, Clinique…

Beauty treatments for a good cause

May 25th, 2009

Help the Students at Elite International School of Beauty and Spa Therapies support Flora.

floraAll proceeds go to supporting the $22,500 it takes to get her through her Guide Dog training. You can book into one of their student client sessions by phoning 3848003.

The students at the Wellington campus of Elite International School of Beauty and Spa have made guide dog training their charity of choice and are raising funds for beautiful Guide Dog Flora. All proceeds from the student “client days” (Wed/Thurs) are going to support Flora. Spread the word to drum up interest in their cause.

The students do everything to make you even more beautiful from Derma Deluxe Facial to Manicures, Pedicures, Waxing, Electrolysis to polishes and tints.

Sorry men, I have been told the School caters for women only but there is nothing to stop you sending along your wife, partner, girlfriend, etc. You may just want to be tactful on why you think they should go along!

Please spread the word to anyone you think may be interested in this chance to support Flora. And when they call up tell them to mention they heard it via Braille House.

The look of the future

May 24th, 2009

Via Jezebel (of course), here’s a video from 1930 that shows what we’ll be wearing in 2000. Electric belts, aluminium and boys who have pockets for “candy for cuties” feature prominently. Oooh swish!
