Book Review: The Goddess Guide

The_Goddess_GuideI got this book as a gift from a very thoughtful friend. It’s full to the brim with beauty tips, cute anecdotes and stylish pictures and design. And much much more. In fact it’s really hard to write a review of it because there is just so much to it. But I’ll try…

The author, Gisele Scanlon, is an Irish ‘lifestyle’ expert. The Goddess Guide won her an Irish Book Award for best newcomer in 2007.

In the Style chapter, Gisele gives interesting run-downs on bags, hoisery, lingerie, coats, op shopping, online shopping, and so on. And also great tidbits such as Christian Louboutin explaining why the soles of his high heels are red.

Then there’s the Beauty chapter that lists the best products to combat any problem. As well as where to go to get the best beauty fixes (in New York, London and Paris, that is).

The Travel chapter prepares you for jet setting any where. And the Home, Garden, and Food chapters all have more of the same inspiring designs, stories and tips.

I have read and reread this book a few times now. You can open it up at any page and it feels like opening a little velvet ring box and finding a gem inside. Especially since the cover of the book is itself is like beautiful flocked velvet.

And to prove how much I love this book I’ll even admit that I have nerdy little post-it notes stuck on some of my favourite pages. This book is one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. Thanks Sara!

I own it, and it’s the perfect toilet book, perfect for flipping through. I found most of the products and shops in it were quite high end… Suppose it IS the Goddess Guide not beauty on a budget.
