Ellis Faas swatches

October 31st, 2009

Ellis FaasYou might recall a little while back me talking about the launch of Ellis Faas makeup at Mecca Cosmetica.

I visited Mecca recently and swatched Ellis Faas’ range of Milky and Creamy lip colours. The Milky range is subtle, with just more than a hint of pretty colour that you can tone up or down with more or less product.

But the real stand-out is the Creamy range. These are highly pigmented colours that just look stunning. If you’re serious about lip stick then you should definitely check these out (and the serious price tag $65 to go with it).

All of the Ellis Faas products are liquid, including the eye colours and blushes. They all come in the same pen-like packaging, which I think may be a bit annoying because if I were rummaging through my makeup bag I couldn’t easily tell all the products apart. But then, I think I’d be quite happy owning even just one of these beautiful cosmetics.

The Pretty Pretty Party Wrap-Up

October 29th, 2009
Shirley is soaking in it

Shirley is soaking in it

I have been terribly remiss in not posting this earlier, but you know what? Our Pretty Pretty Party was AWESOME. Thank you so much to all who came along, especially to Meg from the delicious Durvillea Wines, who provided us with lush Sauvignon Blanc and spicy Pinot Gringo that went down a real treat with all the girls.

So, in case you missed it, here’s what we did. While stuffing our faces with all the amazing treats everyone brought along, and quaffing the wine, we had foot spas. I used milk powder and peppermint essential oil in the warm water to leave feet soft, and then everyone used lemon sugar scrub to slough off the dead skin, before the delightful Anna Jane provided foot massages with coconut & lime moisturiser.

Once again, the Mary Kay Satin Hands set was very popular with everyone raving about how amazing their hands felt afterwards. Some girls went with peel-off facial masques, while others used Shirley’s Rotorua Mud. My highlight of the day was getting to meet tons of our readers and make new friends with very cool girls.

Girls just wanna have fun.

Girls just wanna have fun.

Then it was time to dive into the massive piles of clothes in the hall! After everyone had a good dig through by themselves, it turned out that Sandra works with Dress for Success, so we decided to go through the mountains of leftovers in order to sort out appropriate work-wear to donate to them. We also decided to give every item a once-over and it was through that process that pretty much everyone ended up with extra items that suited them perfectly:

One persons old pants make another girls ass look amazing

And naturally, the night finished with some Singstar goodness. We had a blast, and we look forward to doing it all over again in another six months! Thanks for helping us have such a lovely community. And thanks for the fantastic jewellery I ended up with on the day!

In the news: Dita + Wonderbra = Vavavoom

October 29th, 2009

Dita-Von-Teese-CropDita Von Teese has released a new range of glammed up lingerie for Wonderbra. The collection looks beautiful – very vintage and classy.

The new collection  includes 3 styles: Multi-Teese, Spot-Teese and Satin-Teese. I know it’s available at all the UK department stores but I haven’t seen these in NZ yet and I can’t find any info on the web about an NZ release…in fact, do they even sell Wonderbra in NZ??

Dita’s not new to lingerie design having already released a collection with Wonderbra and Agent Provocateur. Did I tell you guys I visited the Agent Provocateur store in London a couple of years back and bought the least expensive undies I could find there. They were still expensive by my standards but worth it for the packaging alone. I still have the pink box and black ribbon the undies came in.

25cm x 25cm acrylic on canvas painting of the busted up head of a mannequin that used to live in a 2nd hand store in Cuba St, Wellington.

Keep up the amazing work Lisa. She’s a very pretty mannequin.

Pretty pretty people: Debbie from Gracie Lou

October 22nd, 2009

DebbieThe cosmetics website, Gracie Lou, caused quite a stir here at PPP when it started selling super pretty make-up like this at amazing prices. Turns out the mastermind behind Gracie Lou is a local lass with a love for pretty things. Here’s what I asked Debbie…

1. What made you open you shop?

I have always loved nice skincare and cosmetics and after finishing work to have my family, I dabbled in importing skincare and cosmetics for my own use and sold the remainder to friends.  Numerous friends, family and my gorgeous husband made the suggestion to set up a business and extend my ‘hobby’. Gracie Lou was born…..Grace is my 2 year old daughters middle name and Louie is my 1 year old son’s name. Gracie Lou has been in business since May this year and my on-line shop is growing month on month.

2.  How do you decide what to stock?

Initially I found suppliers that had my favourite products and stocked them first and foremost! My stock list has been (and will continue to) evolve as my customers make requests for certain brands and products. Price is also a consideration as my business is all about providing great skincare, cosmetics and fragrance at fabulous prices. It is important to me to have well known brands and I focus on key lines – ie: Clinique 3 Step System.`

3. What are your best sellers?

My best sellers are Trilogy skincare and Bare Escentuals foundations and kits. My fragrance specials are also proving very popular. I am delighted to have Trilogy skincare on board – it is a company set up by 2 Wellington sisters who I have had the pleasure to have worked with in the past. If you haven’t tried Trilogy yet, you really must!

4. What do you do or wear to make yourself feel good?

A good glass of wine is a very good start! I am a huge fan of napping in the sun or relaxing with a good trashy chick lit book. Other times, nice clothes, makeup and fragrance, good friends and good food and wine can be just the tonic. And always, the smile on my children’s face when I walk in the room, what can be better than that?

5. How would you define ‘pretty’?

Pretty to me conjures up numerous thoughts and meanings…..pretty can be floral, girly, flirty, fun and feminine…I immediately think of summer, sun, warmth, dresses, flowers, skincare, cosmetics and fragrance….that must be Gracie Lou…..pretty..pretty..pretty..

You can join Gracie Lou’s mailing list or ask Debbie if she can source your favourite brands by visiting the website. Check out the super specials too!

Reader mascara woes

October 21st, 2009

We received this email the other day from Jen:

Have you guys used the new Revlon Doubletwist Mascara, or know others who have used it?  I don’t know what I am doing wrong, but I am finding it horrible.  It clumps product all over the brush, and so I wipe off the excess onto the top (as I have done with previous mascaras) and then when I put it back in the bottle, and take it out again, the product is all thick on the brush!  I have been using mascara for years, and its not like I am new to using it….  I emailed Revlon, but haven’t heard back from them.

I haven’t tried it myself, but Amy had this advice:

The only teeny advice I can offer is that I have a little disposable mascara wand (that I got from the Mary Kay Party) that I never disposed of. I use it to brush the clumps out of my eyelashes following using my current mascara. My current mascara is pooh too (it’s a MAC mascara but really clumpy and smudgey, but I’m determined to get my money’s worth out of it). The disposable mascara wand doubles as a brow brush too.

Have any of you pretties tried this mascara? Does it suck?

Geek shoes the shiz

October 19th, 2009

aphroditeshoesremoteThetoyzone.com has 21 shoes that every geek would love . Like this GPS platform with audible alarm and hidden safety compartments for hookers.

I personally like the storm trooper heels and I needs to get me some o the USB heated slippers.

My idea for a geek shoe is a peep-toe platform with a matching nail polish concealed in the heel so as I can give myself a pedicure any place. Just ’cause I’m a bit of a make-up geek.
