Weekend beauty reads
Here’s a few interesting articles that you might like too:
- The return of matte make-up. Not sure how I feel about this. I haven’t used matte foundation since I was a teen. I don’t recall it being particularly flattering. I love ‘dewy’ complexions.
- Nasty chemicals in cosmetics. Just to freak you out about beauty products altogether. Personally, I try to use ‘natural’ skin products when I find good products. Some of my all-time fave brands are Skinfood, Living Nature, Eco Store. But I love using cosmetics and tend to overlook the possibly harmful ingredients in good mascaras, colourful eyeshadows, etc. Hopefully I’ve got a good balance of the good and the bad….
- Lash perms and extensions.
- Live without beauty products. 30 days with only soap and sunblock.

30 days with only soap and sunblock?? I can imagine I’d be a greasy ball of grease within a day or two. She’s a very pretty lady too so looked nice without warpaint.
I’ve been on holiday since Xmas eve and been without makeup (and shoes!!) most of the time. I noticed after a few days of no makeup I got a zit on my chin too. But the little bugger didn’t stick around for very long.
I think your skin and hair eventually get used to anything. I liked that the lady continued commenting on what happened after the 30 days without. I tried to stop shampooing for a while, and just rinsed. When I did go back to shampooing (i missed the lovely smell) I didn’t need to shampoo as much.
I noticed that after continuous straightening, if I leave my hair to air dry it gets greasy looking really quickly.
Sigh.
I might take 3 months off work to sit in a cave.
I went without beauty products over NYs and it was amazing how my skin flourished. However, as soon as I came back to the filthy city and air con at work, it was all over. So 30 days of holiday conditions? Yes please
Matte makeup. Maybe if it’s a fun new modern formulation…I ran into a girl in a shop today wearing matte foundation and it just doesn’t look as natural. Definitely a night-time, long lasting make up from where I am.
So scary reading about what beauty products actually have in them! I read an article similar to this one a while back and I have pretty much given up makeup, save for mascara and eyeliner.
I also use all natural skincare stuff as well, and I found this cute little online shop that sells really nice stuff, http://www.purefusionbotanicals.com.au
