Mascara wars: ModelCo vs Lancome

January 10th, 2010 by pretty Leave a reply »

We’ve recently collated the results of our mascara reviews into our Winningest Products page. In my latest review I test ModelCo mascara against Lancome Virtuose.

Lancome Virtuose is a really great mascara. We’ve reviewed it against many other mascaras over the years, and it always comes out on top. It’s clump free, has a great curved wand which is perfect for upper AND lower lashes, and lengthens and curls. Brilliant.

But the difficulty with this review is that the challenger – ModelCo – is really good too.

It got a free ModelCo mascara (with a cute little mirror stuck to it) with a magazine. The magazine was crap but the mascara was well worth it. You might be able to see in the photo that it is slightly less black than the Virtuose and probably doesn’t fatten lashes as much. But it is also clump free, separates lashes, lengthens, doesn’t smudge through out the day, and looks very natural.

So I gotta make this battle a tie!

Just had to tell you… I went and bought myself some Virtuose. All this time I’d thought it was MY fault that by the end of the day (midday when it’s hot) I had panda eyes. Turns out that it was my mascara (revlon)!! Today was my first Virtuose test and even though its really really hot and our office is always super hot if it’s slightly sunny outside, my eyes are still black smudge-free! yay!

Yay! I’m glad it worked out for you. You should send in some pics or a review and we can add it to the ‘winningest page’. What do you hate about pandas anyway?

…. your accusations sting amy. they STING. i love pandas. i just … i just… *sob*

    Here you go madame.

I put the old revlon on one eye and the new lancome on the other. I even gave revlon a fighting chance by putting the lancome on the eye that was already feeling like it might cry a little because when I was curling my lashes my finger slipped and it twisted and ripped out a few lashes (argh.. not a pleasant feeling). Plus no idea what the red mark on my eye is. Anyway, I put the mascaras on and then did some housework (trying to recreate the feeling of utter hopelessness and despair that a poorly air conditioned office achieves) and then watched a movie. The results…

The Revlon Fabulash – went on a bit clumpy… ended up sitting in the creases under my eye (creases ooooor wrinkles…). Multiple this by 10 and you have my eye at midday in the office.

    And then…

Introducting the Lancôme Virtuôse… Well, I think the difference speaks for itself.

So, two very enthusiastic thumbs up for the prettyprettypretty recommendation. No more crappy Revlon mascara for me!

And holy balls, I need to do something about those eyebrows.. tee hee

  6. Amy says:

Oh whoa, that fabulash is sooo messy in comparison. I have to put up a post about this….people must be told!

Also, your brows look nice – well groomed.
