Use for old makeup compacts

February 2nd, 2010

I usually do my makeup in the morning on the bus. As hard as I try to get up ten minutes earlier each day to do it at home I always always always end up running out of the house clutching my makeup bag.

This can be dangerous, so I don’t recommend the practice. Buses are busy and bouncy, with poor lighting. I’ve jabbed myself in the eye so many times. And dropped my precious cosmetics all over the aisles even more times. I’m not sure what I look like when I arrive at work, but my colleagues must be used to it by now.

Here’s a tip for makeup application on the run: use an old mirrored makeup compact as a palette for blending concealer and foundation. So for instance, in this old MAC palette I dot a bit of concealer alongside some foundation, and just dab and sponge and brush onto face. When you close the lid of the compact, the concealer and foundation doesn’t dry out too much, so all good to use the next day too. And you don’t have to worry about fumbling with foundation bottles and lids on the bus.

Un-hangover yourself

December 20th, 2009

The lead up to xmas is such a nice time of year: the weather in NZ is getting nicer; strangers wish each other ‘merry xmas’ and hold the lift button for each other;everyone’s planning their escape from the office/shop/lab. But at a time of year to savor, we’re also more likely to be hungover and tired from too many xmas spirits.

My personal tips: take anti-hangover pills during your big nights; have chewable aspirin and peppermint tea; and a bit of under-eye concealer doesn’t hurt either.

And here are some more tips from totalbeauty.com.

Best tips on forever decreasing circles

July 16th, 2009

I have always had super dark circles under my eyes, even though I’m a good sleeper and drink lots of water and have tried many special eye creams for the problem. The only solution for me as been a concealer.

But now I’m really enthused to try the tips in this list on wikihow.com. These are pretty convincing and comprehensive tips on reducing the appearance of dark, under-eye circles. I’m especially interested in points 7, 9, 10.

So now I’m searching for an eyecream with vitamin K and retinol. Hopefully there’ll be a good one cheap some where…

In the meantime, if you wanna know how to conceal dark circles, take a look at pursebuzz’s wonderful video.

Estee Lauder Gift with purchase

April 16th, 2009

I can’t find a picture of the gift anywhere online, but it is available from Kirk’s in Wellington from today to 3rd May.

Here’s what you get if you buy two EL products:

  • two make-up bags
  • mini bottle of Sensuous fragrance
  • Sumptuous mascara
  • lippie
  • quad eyeshadow in browns and pinks
  • Resilience Lift firming creme
  • Some sort of serum

If you’re into gifts with purchases, but don’t wanna get suckered into buying a crappy second product just for the sake of the freeby, then maybe we can help. Here’s a few EL products I’ve reviewed on the site that I recommend:

Cream blush sticks

foundation

concealer

Perfectionist Serum (i think it may come with the gift)

I don’t like their liquid liners though – there are  many better liners out there for much cheaper.  And I don’t like the Sumptuous mascara that comes with the gift.

You could also take a look at totalbeauty.com and see what others think about the rest of EL’s line.
