Illuminate your face, brighten your skin

May 24th, 2010

Don’t you just hate it when a product you love is discontinued?

I’ve never had any special allegiance to a foundation (I like my makeup cheap and cheerful more than luxe)  but I used to adore Revlon Skinlights skin brightener.
It was a lot lighter than foundation, being more like a tinted moisturiser. Skinlights gave a glow without being overly sparkly or shiny looking. It was discontinued and I was disgruntled.

But I just saw a Revlon email about a new product called  Age Defying Spa Face Illuminator:

Boost natural radiance for a fresh, luminous glow. Light reflecting micronized crystals illuminate on contact. Sheer colour in a lightweight, oil-free formula. SPF 18.

I’m going to check it out and see if it’s the new version of the Skinlights.
Something for those of us who want something less full on than foundation.

Have you tried this new Revlon product?
Any other recommendations for skin brighteners, tinted moisturisers, or something subtle for your face?

Estee Lauder Gift with purchase

April 16th, 2009

I can’t find a picture of the gift anywhere online, but it is available from Kirk’s in Wellington from today to 3rd May.

Here’s what you get if you buy two EL products:

  • two make-up bags
  • mini bottle of Sensuous fragrance
  • Sumptuous mascara
  • lippie
  • quad eyeshadow in browns and pinks
  • Resilience Lift firming creme
  • Some sort of serum

If you’re into gifts with purchases, but don’t wanna get suckered into buying a crappy second product just for the sake of the freeby, then maybe we can help. Here’s a few EL products I’ve reviewed on the site that I recommend:

Cream blush sticks

foundation

concealer

Perfectionist Serum (i think it may come with the gift)

I don’t like their liquid liners though – there are  many better liners out there for much cheaper.  And I don’t like the Sumptuous mascara that comes with the gift.

You could also take a look at totalbeauty.com and see what others think about the rest of EL’s line.

Mary Kay par-tay!

January 28th, 2009

I had a genuinely awesome time at the Mary Kay party at my place last night. Hope my other guests were as enthused. Karyl Anderson is the most expert make-up and skincare person you can talk to. I learned so much and picked up some great products that I got to thoroughly try and test before purchasing. Plus I got a free Satin Hands gift for being host!

I picked up so many tips from Karyl, and me and Jo gonna share them all over a number of posts.

Here’s the first few tips about buying foundation:

  • Test foundations by striping possible matches down your jaw-line. The best match is likely to be the one that ‘disappears’ into your skin when you squint at yourself.
  • Leave tester foundation on your skin for several minutes before deciding on the best colour. Everyone’s skin has its own acid-mantel (or something) that will affect the colour of foundation. So leave it a while to settle.

Thanks Karyl!!
