Product wars: Garnier vs Lancome

November 11th, 2009

november 003Pictured right is the result of my latest makeup remover test.

I pitted  Garnier Clear Sensitive two-in-one water and oil version (you know, the kinds you have to shake before using) against Lancome’s Bi-facial eye makeup remover.

Take a close look at the pic. The top row of cotton pads are the results of the first swipe. You can see that the Lancome (right) has removed a lot of my foundation too (the peachy colour).

The bottom row of cotton pads are the results of the second swipe. You can see that there was still a lot of black after the first swipe of Garnier that finally come off the on the second swipe.

I’ve reviewed the Garnier before, and I didn’t like it. And I haven’t changed my mind about it after this latest test.

Lancome ftw!

Review of Garnier Eye Roller

April 20th, 2009

rollerI wanted to review this product as soon as I heard about it, but looks like it’s been reviewed to death already. However, I did go a bit further than some other reviews by applying this product to just my left eye for a month to see if there was any visible difference…more about that later.

It got really mixed reviews on totalbeauty.com ranging from 1 out of 10 to 10 out of 10. With this product I think your expectations are key to your rating. If you believe that any product will get rid dark circles and smooth wrinkles, then sure, you’re gonna be disappointed by this product. But if, like me, you have low expectations of  products actually living up to their claims, you might just like this product.

It is fun to use, and cooling and soothing to the eyes. It is easy to apply – no dipping grubby fingers into a pottle of eye cream – just roll, baby. And you can take it anywhere and use it any time since it’s not much bigger than a lip gloss.

My biggest ‘must’ for any eye cream is it suitably with eye make-up. Some eye creams I’ve used glob-up when you apply make-up over top and smear or rub off. But this gel is fine, though it feels wet for a few minutes after application so you have to wait a little before putting make-up over top.

So after a month of applying only to my left eye each morning and night there is no discernable difference. I still have deep dark circles of the same hue under each eye. It’s not a miracle product afterall. But I still like the cool and freshness it gives my poor tired-from-blogging-too-much eyes, and it’s not bad for around NZ$17.
