We’ve another prize to give away! This time you could win one of five fabulous Herbatint permanent hair colourants.

You might remember the glowing review I gave Herbatint a while back. Well, we managed to track down some Herbatint to give away to you.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling us your hair colour preference (we have dark chestnut, light golden blonde, dark blonde, and blonde to give away) AND a good/bad hair story.

As an example, here’s my real life hair-horror story (which is also part of the reason don’t like hardcore, chemically hair products). A few years ago, I had my hair chemically straightened with a product called Glatt. The product wasn’t applied quite right, and in the days that followed the treatment, my hair snapped off at the roots leave patches a bare scalp. Though the hairdresser (Cut Above on Lorne St, Auckland) gave me some free moisture treatments to remedy the effect, they never gave my money back for the treatment. Afterwards I spoke to many hairdressers about Glatt, and many had similar stories about it. It’s not a nice product.

Review: Herbatint hair colour

Herbavita’s Herbatint is one of the few ‘natural’ hair colourant brands I’ve seen. And I reckon it’s all good. It gets a big pretty thumbs-up from me.

They say:
A herbal based permanent hair colour with aloe vera, no paraben, NO AMMONIA and only 3% peroxide. Herbatint has fewer chemicals in than other permanent hair colours on the market and unlike products which contain ammonia it has no smell once mixed. The absence of ammonia results in little or no penetration of the epidermis and is less likely for people to have allergic reactions.

The Good:

Easy application, you apply to dry, non-washed hair, mix two bottles, spread through hair, wait, and rinse out. No strong smells. Covers grey (don’t ask how I know). It was quite a clean application – the mixture doesn’t splash much and it seems to cling to your hair so doesn’t drip from your hair. And I don’t think it stains the bathroom like other dyes – the couple of drops that did fall wiped off the floor easily even after many minutes.

A few washes later, and my hair is still super shiny and soft feeling.

The Bad: It takes 40 mins to develop colour, but actually I didn’t mind it taking this long at all.

Costs: around $30 from Hardy’s natural health stores.

Oh, and remember to do a patch test first – there’ll be no anaphylactic shock on my watch!!
