Let’s turn this whole town purple and orange!

November 9th, 2009

So after the absolutely fantastically amazingly vicious bout between Smash Malice and Brutal Pageant on Saturday (Hadyn has a good write-up and pics of it), it’s time for the girls to voltronise themselves together to form Richter City (woo!) to take on Auckland’s Pirate City Rollers (boo hiss!). The match is on December 5, and you’ve got to be there. Along with making signs, we’re hoping y’all will join us in dressing in orange and purple to show your support. How rad would it be if the whole audience did it? Here’s what I’d be wearing, if someone else was paying:

So we’ll see you there, right?

Win tickets to Civil Offence!

October 5th, 2009

Thanks to the lovely Thigh Voltage, we have a double pass to give away to Civil Offence Roller Derby which is happening this Saturday from 6pm at the TSB Arena. We’ll draw it Friday morning so that in case you don’t win, you’ll still have plenty of time to get your tickets before the event.

In order to win, just leave us a comment telling us what you’ll wear to the event. You’ve seen our suggestions, now we wanna see yours! Leopardskin for Smash Malice? Or pink & red for Brutal Pageant?

(Also, holy crap, what am I going to wear? I feel I have set the bar very very high…)

I will suggest that if you want to see really good photos & action shots you go look at Jed’s, but if you want to see hott girls and hott outfits taken by me, then keep on reading.

What are you going to do wear to the Roller Derby?

September 8th, 2009

We’ve talked before about Roller Derby, and how fantastic the girls who do it are. We’ve told you to buy your tickets. Now we’d like to offer some suggestions as to how you should dress for the event on September 19. Obviously, you want to be comfortable. It’s licensed, so you may be drinking beer, but then you will have to negotiate portaloos. You may be sitting on the ground or on bleachers, so you don’t want anything too tight. There are many many attractive people in attendance who you may wish to try and pick up, so you have to dress to impress as well – if you’re in to that sort of thing. And then there’s the really important issue – do you support Smash Malice or Brutal Pagaent???

I’ve had a play around on Polyvore today, so let me offer up some suggestions for each team supporter:

Roller Derby girls

July 3rd, 2009

You may recall our post about Ginger Tonix from the Richter City Rollers. Well I finally got to see these roller derby girls in person at the Richter City Rollers grading day this week. These girls are awesome. With race names like Tuff Bikkies, Lux Vengence, Sneaky Darkie, Suffer Jet and so on. In fact, roller derby race names have to be registered, and here’s the database of registered names.

Uniforms are typically stripey socks, fishnets, frilly knickers and leopard skin. Plus ‘tude, lots of ‘tude. Most of the kiwi girls get their roller derby gear from sincityskates.com.

The grading seemed to go well – lots of enthusiastic ladies showing their super skate skills. While there was too many press-ups for my liking, the skating drills, falling drills, and blocking drills looked so much fun.
