There’s a new hair salon in town, and it’s rather special. Wildilocks is from Australia originally, but now they’ve opened up a branch at 225 Cuba Street (where Eyeball Kicks used to be – don’t worry, Eyeball Kicks is still around). As well as being a salon, Wildilocks also sells clothes, accessories and hair products. As you can see from the listings on their webstore, they’ve got a particular focus on the gothy-ravey-steam punky aesthetic, so if you’re after oversize goggles or Special FX hair dye, this is the place you want to go.

I’m particularly intrigued by their pricing structure – you pay per hour (billed in quarter hour increments), with stylists ranging from $55 to $85, depending on their expertise. Another awesome service they offer? Vintage hair dos! I was lucky enough to get to model for them as Dom and Charlotte were trained by Kat from Australia, and the Victory Rolls I got were seriously awesome. Photos are after the jump.

Luckily they fixed it for me.

The blue robes are great. My face in this pic? Not so much.

I could sit and have people play with my hair all day. This only took 80 minutes though.

I took my Victory Rolls out to Mighty Mighty to celebrate

How my hair looked at the end of the night. There were 50 pins in it.

I wish I could tell you exactly how it was all done, and that I had some proper photos of the back of my hair to show you because they were seriously amazing, but alas, those photos are on other people’s cameras. I’ll update once I find them though!

If you’re going somewhere special and need an amazing hairdo, or just even a regular cut, I definitely recommend Wildilocks. I’ll be going back, just as soon as funds allow it.

Remember how I went to a Pride & Prejudice & Zombies ball at Halloween? The wonderful Wellington Historical Costume Society who organised that are throwing another ball this Saturday the 10th, called Have Tardis, Will Travel, and you should come along!

The boundaries of time and relative dimensions in space are open for the next WHCS event, a Dr Who themed time-travelling ball: Have Tardis Will Travel.

Bid farewell to the current Dr Who, dance, eat delicious treats and generally have lots and lots of fun

Saturday, April 10, 2010
St Michael’s Church Hall, Upland Road, Kelburn
6.30 – late

Attire: Dress in clothing from any of the different eras that Dr Who has visited or as a Dr Who character. Steampunk attire is also appropriate.

For those of you who, like me, are not really that familiar with where and when the Doctor has visited, they’ve made a list of eras for inspiration as well:

Ancient Pompeii,

18th century aristocratic France (The Girl in the Fireplace)

1745 Scotland (The Highlander)

Mid-Victorian England

1920s UK (Black Orchid)

Steampunk (Voyage of the Damned)

This still doesn’t mean that I have any idea what I’m going to wear though! Help! Keep in mind that I’m poor, I’m fat, and there will be a lot of dancing. Will you come to the ball? I’ll save a space on my dance card for you!
