Brilliant. Just brilliant. Stila has created a eye colour compact that talks you through application.

How does it work? It’s simple - just push the button and the palette literally talks you through 5 easy steps to the perfect smoky eye. It’s complete with artistry tips and what brushes to use - all in under a minute.

I think you can get these from Mecca Cosmetica at Kirk’s and the like. Pricey and maybe gimmicky, but I reckon it’s a way cool idea.

If you’ve wandered past Kirk’s in Welly recently, you may have noticed the curious shop signage and goings-on inside the store - something about new cosmetics and beauty ranges… All will be fully revealed to the public tomorrow when Mecca Cosmetica opens in Kirk’s.

Mecca is an Australian company, already open on Ponsonby Rd Auckland,  that “scout the world for the hottest and most innovative products in colour cosmetics, skin care, hair care, body care, perfumes and home fragrance. We lay out our shops so our customers can touch and play with the products”.

Mecca stock great international brands such as Stila and NARS, and even Kevyn Aucoin (make-up artist and author of some great beauty books). Can’t wait!!

A good lashing May 20, 2008

There are so many priming products on the market these days. Is it because normal products aren’t very good in themselves, or is it just another line of merchandise we’ve been suckered into buying? You can read my previous post about an eye primer which is OK, and I quite like the Napoleon face primer, but where’s it gonna end????

I bought some treats off the internet and got some free lash primer along with it. It’s by Stila, which is a pretty good brand based on the other products i’ve bought. Their lash primer reportedly thickens and lengthens lashes.

I’ve used this product a number of times now, but i’m not convinced. Here are my eyes - the left has just good ol’ mascara applied, the right has the primer followed by mascara. In the photo there appears to be a subtle difference - if you look real hard. Maybe the right is a little longer and less clumpy, but I think it’s just the light. Anyways, I’m not impressed.

Mind you, I don’t really have a problem with the length or thickness of my lashes. Maybe if i did this product would make my eyes pop… i dunno.
Have you guys got any stories about lash primers??
