Important things you should know about Auckland

December 7th, 2009

IMG_0412I’ve been frequenting Auckland recently, and there’s a few things I’ve learned about it:

  1. Smith & Caughey’s sells Anastasia Brow Kits
  2. Liquid makeup is much runnier in Auckland than Welly
  3. The $3 Japan shop on Queen Street sells the hugest range of cute and wacky Japanese beauty supplies
  4. Smith & Caughey’s has a ‘make your own’ Havaianas stall (pictured)
  5. Britmart looks all futurey and steely
  6. The Department Store in Takapuna is good for a look-see but much smaller (and pricier) than you’d expect
  7. You can’t find good food in the CBD after 10pm
  8. You can get a great coffee on ice lots of places
  9. There is a super secret cafe a the top of Auckland City Council building with amazing views and cheap food
  10. The big Santa on Queen St still looks creepy

Roving report from Auckland

November 28th, 2009

I’m visiting Auckland for the Pearl Jam concert. It was the best concert I’ve been too. PJ played for two and a half hours, on top of stunning performances with Liam Finn, Ben Harper and Neil Finn. I got a bit stomped in the mosh pit. Man I hate those big smelly dudes that push their way to the front. Even so I had a blast. Eddie Vedder sung ‘Not Given Lightly’ with Liam and Neil Finn (for dear Chris Knox). And the outrageously good-looking Ben Harper did a Queen number with Ed (‘Under Pressure’). All too much for my little hed to take in…

I have also visited the Japanese $3 on Queen St. So many cool things. I’ll tell you all about the goodies I got later. And I visited The Department Store in Takapuna – it’s not as big as I expected but a tad more pretentious. It did have a great range of cosmetics though.

Auckland is awesome though. The weather is stunning and we’re off to Roller Derby tonight. But now I’m off to the Grey Lynn festival. See ya!
